Memories
The exhibition by photographer Ivica Lajtner offers an emotional view of the
former Croatian Natural History Museum, its exhibition spaces, collections and
atmosphere before the earthquake in March 2020.
About the exhibition
The exhibition “Memories” by photographer Ivica Lajtner brings
an emotional view of the former Croatian Natural History Museum before the
earthquake in March 2020.
Through 18 large-format photographs, the author records the collections,
exhibition spaces and atmosphere of the museum as generations of visitors had
known it since 1867.
The photographs represent a valuable visual record of a space that received
a new appearance after renovation, while the scenes captured by the camera
remain permanently preserved as part of the museum’s memory.
Black-and-white museum memory
Ivica Lajtner created the largest part of his photographic work in black-and-white
photography, a medium he also uses in this exhibition.
The monochrome presentation further emphasizes the feeling of nostalgia, the
passage of time and the importance of preserving the memory of the museum’s
former appearance.

The exhibition invites visitors to once again walk through the spaces of the
old Croatian Natural History Museum and remember the exhibits, interiors and
details that shaped its identity for more than a century.
