Abstract
Tortricid moths are among the economically most important insect families worldwide. A significant number of species are agricultural and forestry pests, yet Croatia still lacks a comprehensive species list that would facilitate monitoring and management of harmful species. In compiling the first checklist of Croatian tortricid moths, more than 300 literature sources were reviewed.
The checklist includes material collected through the authors’ field research, as well as specimens from the collections of the Croatian Natural History Museum — the Koča Microlepidoptera Collection and the Igalffy Microlepidoptera Collection.
The list contains 416 species from the family Tortricidae. A total of 31 species are newly recorded for the Croatian fauna: three species from museum collections and 28 species collected by the authors.
For each species, a comprehensive literature review is provided, ranging from the earliest historical records to the present day. Data from field research and/or museum collections where specimens were preserved are also included.
The included taxonomic categories comprise subfamilies, tribes, genera, subgenera, and species. In addition, information is provided on the distribution of species across the three biogeographical regions of Croatia (Alpine, Mediterranean, and Continental).
