Geology for the blind and visually impaired

The first in a series of workshops entitled Geology for the Blind and Visually Impaired was held.

We visited the “Vinko Bek” Centre for Education, Zagreb detached unit, where programs of education, upbringing and psychosocial rehabilitation are carried out for preschool and primary school children.

The topic of the first workshop was fossils. The students were presented with various fossil models, replicas and original fossils, among which the mammoth tooth attracted the greatest interest from both students and staff.

Each fossil and new geological term was accompanied by a poem from the Croatian Natural History Museum publication “Geological Alphabet”, as well as a short explanation, after which the students individually had the opportunity to touch the fossils and replicas.
