Catalog Presentation Accompanying the Exhibition – “Greats of Croatian Natural Science: Mijo Kišpatić – A Quiet Visionary”
The Croatian Natural History Museum invites you to the presentation of the exhibition catalogue and accompanying program for “Greats of Croatian Natural Science: Mijo Kišpatić – A Quiet Visionary”, dedicated to one of the most important figures in Croatian science.
The exhibition is held on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of Mijo Kišpatić’s birth and the 100th anniversary of his death (1851–1926). Kišpatić was a pioneer of Croatian geosciences, the first Croatian PhD in natural sciences, a founder of seismology and soil science in Croatia, and a key figure in the development of mineralogy, petrology, and natural history museology.
Through museum objects, archival materials, publications, multimedia content, and scientific interpretations, visitors are given the opportunity to explore Kišpatić as an exceptional natural scientist, researcher, museum professional, educator, and popularizer of science. A special focus is placed on his pioneering research of the Bosnian serpentinite zone, which anticipated modern scientific interpretations of Earth’s geological structure by decades.
Alongside the catalogue presentation, the program includes interpretative readings of Kišpatić’s work and a guided tour of the exhibition display.
