HPM marks Croatian Book Month with lectures and children’s picture book presentation

The Croatian Natural History Museum participated in the national “Croatian Book Month” initiative, held in libraries across Croatia. Our contribution was organized in cooperation with the “Tin Ujević” Library in Zagreb, where on 4 November 2025 the lecture “Caves and Pits – Underground Treasure of Medvednica” was held. Speaker Damir Lacković introduced 3rd-grade pupils from the King Tomislav and Julije Klović primary schools to speleology and caves – how they form and who explores them – with special emphasis on Veternica Cave, the closest cave to Zagreb and one of the largest and most well-known in Croatia.

The pupils showed great interest and asked many questions.

A special part of the program dedicated to books was the presentation of the museum’s children’s publication “Life in Grasslands”, published within the Interreg project “CarEx – Caring for Dry Grasslands to Preserve Biodiversity.” The picture book was presented on 7 November 2025 by Damjan Milošević and Renata Brezinščak, members of the project team. The presentation was attended by 2nd-grade pupils from the King Tomislav Primary School. Through stories about grasslands and interactive activities, the speakers brought the richness of these habitats closer to the children.

At the end of the event, all pupils received a copy of the picture book, and one was donated to the school library.
