Presentation of the exhibition catalogue “Coral Retrieved from the Sea”

The diversity of fossil and recent corals, their structure, impressive building ability and luxurious beauty inspired us to present them to visitors through various natural history and other aspects, starting from their first appearance in the distant geological past, through their mineralogical composition, structure and way of life of today’s corals, all the way to the use of coral in making attractive and valuable jewellery.
In this way, alongside its primary natural history attribute, this exhibition has also been given an artistic one, placing it among the exhibitions of the new wave of the Croatian Natural History Museum, in which nature and art, or natura and culture, intertwine, touch and complement each other in a special way.
Corals, although very tiny, are the builders of the largest structures in the living world – coral reefs, which also have a special place in the exhibition.
