Vilenica aquatic insects collection

The Vilenica Aquatic Insect Collection is a unique collection, having been established through comprehensive research conducted throughout Croatia over the past 15 years. The collection contains representative aquatic insect fauna, primarily mayflies, from the Dinaric karst region of Croatia.

The collection comprises wet-preserved specimens of aquatic insects belonging to the orders Ephemeroptera, Odonata , Plecoptera and Megaloptera. It also includes representatives of rare, endemic, and potentially threatened species from these groups.

These orders of aquatic insects had previously been studied only sporadically in Croatia. The collection contains species newly recorded for the Croatian fauna, as well as taxonomically significant and scientifically interesting species.
